makes this trip the best value in the Amazon. |
The Best Value in the Amazon
Sept. and Oct. In the Southern Amazon Fishery
The "Blackwater Explorer" is
heading to the Igapo Acu. Join us to fish for
the world's most exciting gamefish on the Amazon's newest and most comfortable
yacht.
Acute
Angling is featuring 5 exclusive weeks during the peak of the southern
Amazon fishery's fall angling season! This great itinerary
allows us to access several tributaries of the Rio Madeira, including the
Rio Matupiri, the Rio Preto, Lago Tacuia and the Igapo Acu. Over
300 Miles of majestic, fishable waters with innumerable big lagoons, winding
tributaries, a huge lake and endless fish holding points. Our mobility
allows us to fish as much or as little of this area as we choose.
Depending on fishing conditions, we can sample all of the various fisheries
or choose to concentrate our efforts on the rivers or sections with optimal
water levels and productivity. This flexibility allows us to
find great fishing on all of our trips. Excellent daily catch averages
(15 - 30 or more peacocks per day) with an excellent average size.
Fish in the teens are common and fish over 22-pounds have been taken here.
Great
fly fishing opportunities. Return each evening to the comfort and
security of the Yacht.

September - October
You’ll love the lifestyle efficiency of our new boat’s
design, and the roominess and comfort it will provide. With big,
individually air-conditioned cabins, private bathrooms, hot showers
and spacious group areas, the "Blackwater Explorer" is one of the finest
yachts in the Amazon. Her shallow draft and wide beam will allow
us to traverse sandbars and fast water to access regions others just can’t
reach. |

Arrive
at Macaroca Lodge, settle in and sample the fishing. Explore the
lower and central Xeriuini river’s big lagoons and tangle with electrifying
trophy peacocks for the next three days. Then pack your lunch and
fish your way upriver. Enjoy the beauty and productivity of rarely
visited central river sections and arrive at Posao Lodge in time for a
delicious, well-earned dinner. Your bags will already be waiting
in Posao’s comfortable, air-conditioned cabins. Three more exciting
fishing days await you in Posao’s beautiful waters.
This
unique itinerary provides you with the comfort, security and luxury of
an air-conditioned, ground-based lodge with all of the amenities, coupled
with the same type of expanded access normally available only with a rough

water provides great fishing for both fly and conventional tackle, while
the gorgeous white sand beaches accentuate the natural beauty of the wild
Amazon Basin. And the icing on the cake ..... enjoy it all for less
than the price of either lodge alone ..... while experiencing both of these
unique fisheries in the same week. Fish the entire Xeriuini river!
Pack up the family or your friends and enjoy Thanksgiving in the Amazon. |

NEW
- Peacock
Bass Research Trip.
A
new sportfishing research project has been proposed in Brazil to measure
the socio-economic and ecological impact of sportfishing for peacock bass.
The project is now in the application process and, subject to approval,
is planned to begin operating in late November of 2008. The project
will offer a group of selected volunteers the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
to assist scientists in catching, tagging and releasing peacock bass on
a protected and heretofore unfished river.
Volunteer anglers will be able to join the project via a tax-free charitable
donation to the International Game Fish Association (IGFA), the funding
organization for this critically important project. All volunteers
will be trained in the project’s protocols. The fishing is expected
to be fantastic and anglers will enjoy the chance to be an important part
of a study that may help protect the peacock bass for future generations.
Interested anglers should contact Paul Reiss at 908 832-2987.
Places will be limited to the first 24 applicants. |

The Best Big Fish Region
in the Amazon
November and December - In the Rio Negro System
Acute
Angling will feature exclusive weeks during the peak of the Central Amazon
fishery's angling season on one of the most consistently productive
rivers in Amazonia. Protected from predation, the Unini's dark blackwater
favors surface action and results in violent, explosive topwater strikes.
Excellent daily catch averages (15 - 20 fish per day) and a very high proportion
of trophy peacocks up to 26 pounds! The
Unini also features a population of huge red tail catfish up to 100 pounds!
We'll
fish in a 100 mile area of complex braided river, with innumerable
big lagoons, oxbows, and productive creeks. Our mobility allows us
to fish as much or as little of this area as we choose. Depending
on fishing conditions, we can sample the entire region or choose
to concentrate our efforts on sections with optimal productivity.
This flexibility allows us to find great fishing on all of our trips.
Return each evening to the comfort and security of the Blackwater Explorer.
You’ll love the improved efficiency of the new boat’s
design, and the roominess and comfort it will provide. With big,
fully air-conditioned cabins, private bathrooms and spacious group
areas, this will be one of the nicest yachts in the Amazon. Her shallower
draft and wider beam will allow us to traverse sandbars and difficult
waters to access regions others just can’t reach. |
December and January
Although our
focus is first and foremost on the absolute best in angling quality,
we accompany the great fishing with great service, air- conditioned comfort,
delicious food and fascinating side trips. |

Rivers fished include tributaries of the
Rio Negro,
Rio Branco and the Rio Madeira
|
They literally outdistance the
competition - River Plate’s Fly-In Floating Cabins
are the perfect fishing tools, providing headwaters access, mobility, comfort
and luxury. River Plate selects locations with productive secluded
lagoons, hours away on the fastest bass boats from the melee of competing
house boats and lodges congregated on the Rio Negro’s main channel water
ways. On arrival from the US, you travel directly to one of five
Floating Cabin camps via a new, state-of-the-art, 8 passenger Cessna Caravan
turbo prop floatplane, effectively eliminating daily 3-5 hour boat travel
or expensive daily Fly-Outs.
What you’ll find when you arrive are fully carpeted,
tastefully decorated Cabins, with every detail carefully considered.
At the 12’ x 23’ dinning/sitting lounge, you'll dine on linen table cloths
enjoying the chef’s four course meals. Fresh breads and pastries
are baked daily and chilled wines, ice-cold beer, soft drinks, and Brazilian-style
Caipirinhas flow freely throughout your fishing trip. Each of the Floating
Cabin operations are managed by a knowledgeable fisherman, experienced
in handling the logistics inherent in Amazon fishing operations.
Since the groups are small, the staff and bilingual host offer uniquely
personalized hands-on attention. Breakfast room service, laundry
service and guest satellite phone are a few of the available amenities.
What you won’t find are many pesky bugs. The pristine
rivers they fish have naturally high tannin levels (from extensive leaf
decay) which discourage the development of biting insects. You fish
from a fully equipped, 18 foot shallow draft bass boat, two anglers and
one guide per boat. Come challenge the mighty peacock bass and leave
the crowds behind. |

Winter 2009 - Amazon Peacock Bass Adventure
Peacock Bass - Winter 2009 -
Macaroca Lodge - On
the Beautiful Xeriuini River
Enclosed within Brazil's largest ecological preserve,
the Xeriuini was closed to fishing for a decade. The river
was reopened in '2000 for catch and release fishing only, making it a virtual
virgin fishery. Peacocks here unabashedly and violently attack baits,
making for truly exciting fishing. Boasting an extraordinarily high
percentage of medium to large peacocks, Macaroca provides a uniquely satisfying
fishing experience for beginners and experts alike.
The rustic lodges are spacious and comfortable and the excellent
staff makes sure that guests are comfortable and well-fed. Both the
lower and upriver facility provide great flexibility and access to optimal
water levels. Tannin stained, clear water enables excellent
surface action with explosive topwater strikes. The Xeriuini is a
premier fly fishing river. Excellent daily
catch averages (15 - 30 or more peacocks per day). Fish in the teens
are common and fish over 20 pounds have been taken here.

Peacock Bass - Winter 2009
Fly-in Safari Camp Trips - Tapera
River:
Plan Ahead - This trips fills up quickly.
Beautiful white sand beaches with "Jurassic Park" surrounding jungle.
Generally very clear water (depending upon water levels). Great for
fly
fisherman and plug casters alike. Fantastic
daily catch averages (25 - 50 or more peacocks per day) with an average
size of about 6 pounds. Previous Tapera River trips have furnished
some of the best peacock fishing in the Amazon. This river provides
great numbers, huge fish and the most beautiful scenery outside of paradise.
We've hosted groups of 8 anglers each, that caught over 2,200 peacocks
for the week (an average of 275 fish per angler!), with several peacocks
weighing over 22-lbs. |

This one is for the hardcore angler only. The upper Travessão
River, isolated by impassable waterfalls below and a protected Indian reservation
above, has long beckoned as a potentially outstanding variety fishery.
2007 proved to be the year we were finally able to mount a full scale exploratory
trip within its most interesting and varied section. The trips provided
in-depth exploratory data and told us just what this river’s potential
really is. The results were better than we could have imagined and
we're going back.
The
Travessão's varied waters hold a true potpourri of Amazon species.
Big, ugly trairao up to 35 pounds, bicuda over 3 feet long, huge
catfish over 300 pounds, heiroglyphic patterned suribim and the world's
record black piranha haunt the narrow upper reaches, while the wider
central section holds big peacocks in the shallows and big payara in basins
and quick running rocky areas. Deep holes harbor agressive pescada
and a whole contingent of giant Amazon catfish. One of our exploratory
clients set four new IGFA all-tackle world records here in 2007.
The
2009 trips will be operated by Amazon Fringe Expeditions, usinge their
proven exploratory technique of total immersion in the fishery. Nothing
fancy. Pup tents, riverbank camping and barbecued fish and meat with
rice and beans. We’ll carry our camp with us as we wend our way through
the descending river’s changing environments. With this simplicity
comes extreme mobility and flexibility. Six groups, with eight anglers
per group will experience this amazing land that time forgot.
If you’re not afraid to rough it and you’re looking for some fishing excitement,
then join us next February, 2009 on the upper Travessão and
become among the first outsiders to fish this angler's paradise. |

2008/2009 Tarpon Trips - Rio Parismina Lodge
Tarpon - 2008/2009
Guided tarpon trips are available
year round at beautiful Parismina Lodge.
Rio Parismina Lodge-
Here,
on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, enormous schools of marauding tarpon
search to satisfy their endless appetite. Casting a plug or fly into
a school of feeding tarpon is the start of one of the greatest experiences
an angler can have. Perhaps no other fish will take a lure so softly
and then explode so wildly into insane acrobatic leaps. Rio Parismina
Lodge also offers world record class snook, wahoo, snapper, jack crevalle,
king mackerel and tuna. The surrounding network of rivers, streams
and lagoons teem with sporty gamefish with names like machaca, mojara and
guapote. |

2009 Dorado Trips to Argentina
|
Dorado Adventure
2 Locations in 2 river basins
Spring 2009
We’re risk aversive. Even though water levels are sometimes
OK for peacocks in the Madeira basin in August, we never start fishing
there until September. Too uncertain. Too risky. We just
don’t want to take the chance of operating an unproductive trip.
All of us fishermen know the old saw we
comfort ourselves with when the fishing just isn’t turned on the way we’d
like it to be. “Well, that’s why they call it fishing, not catching”.
Truly, if every day on the water guaranteed the same results, we would
just offer “catching” trips for exotic species. In reality, though,
traveling half a world to go fishing for just one week out of the year,
in a highly variable watershed with fish that migrate is risky business.
By its very nature, Freshwater Golden Dorado fishing is normally right
at the top of that risk list. So how do we deal with one of the riskiest
fisheries of all, where even a rainstorm can turn them off? We cut
the risk in half, that’s how.
Our 2008 dorado trips will have the ability to completely switch
locale on a day’s notice, depending on weather, water levels and fishing
conditions. Two lodges, situated 240 km apart in two fully
independent watersheds will give us the flexibility to maximize our success
and minimize the risk often associated with dorado fishing. Although
we’ll still have to call it a “fishing” trip, the “catching” part is far
more assured.
Comfortable and elegant Capita Mini on
the Corrientes river at the outlet of Argentina’s famous Ibera marsh will
be location number one, while brand new Dorado Cua in the Parana basin
will be our second option. Both fisheries have wonderfully attractive
characteristics and are historically known for holding large populations
of trophy dorado. We’ll go where conditions are best, or we can even
decide we’ll just sample them both. |
