Enclosed within Brazil's
largest ecological preserve, the Xeriuini was closed to fishing for
a decade. The river was reopened in '2002 for catch and release fishing
only, making it a virtual virgin fishery. Peacocks here unabashedly
and violently attack baits, making for truly exciting fishing. Boasting
an extraordinarily high percentage of medium to large peacocks, Macaroca
provides a uniquely satisfying fishing experience for beginners and experts
alike.
The rustic lodges are spacious and comfortable and the excellent
staff makes sure that guests are comfortable and well-fed. Both the
lower and upriver facility provide great flexibility and access to optimal
water levels. Tannin stained, clear black water enables excellent
surface action with explosive topwater strikes. The Xeriuini is a
premier fly fishing river. Excellent daily
catch averages (15 - 30 or more peacocks per day). Fish in the teens
are common and fish over 22 pounds have been taken here.
