You'll love the improved efficiency of the new boat's design, and the roominess and comfort it provides.  With big, fully air-conditioned cabins,  private bathrooms and spacious group areas, this is one of the nicest yachts in the Amazon.  Her shallower draft and wider beam allows us to traverse sandbars and difficult  waters to access regions others just can't reach.
The Best Big Fish Region in the Amazon
November and December - In the Rio Unini
The Elegant Blackwater Explorer Peacock Bass Yacht
Acute Angling will feature exclusive weeks during the peak of the Central Amazon fishery's angling season on one of the most consistently productive rivers in Amazonia.  Protected from predation, the Unini's dark blackwater favors surface action and results in violent, explosive topwater strikes.  Excellent daily catch averages (15 - 20 fish per day) and a very high proportion of trophy peacocks up to 26 pounds!   The Unini also features a population of huge red tail catfish up to 100 pounds!
We'll fish in a 100 mile area of complex braided river,  with innumerable big lagoons, oxbows, and productive creeks.  Our mobility allows us to fish as much or as little of this area as we choose.  Depending on fishing conditions, we can sample the entire  region or choose to concentrate our efforts on  sections with optimal productivity.   This flexibility allows us to find great fishing on all of our trips.  Return each evening to the comfort and security of the Blackwater Explorer.

Note - These trips are primarily planned for  the Rio Unini or Urubaxi, however productive peacock bass fishing is controlled by ambient conditions.  In order to ensure a quality experience for our clients, river and date combinations may be subject to access to the fishery named, along with weather conditions and water levels.  If factors prevent the use of a specified fishery or dates, an alternative river will be used, or alternative dates and/or rainchecks will be offered.  Below are some of the rivers we may utilize.

Jufari River - One of the most dependable rivers in the Rio Negro basin.  Lightly stained black water favors high numbers.  Restricted access to this fishery ensures very high daily catch averages (15 - 50 fish per day) and a good proportion of trophy peacocks up to 22 pounds.

Caures River - A black water river that has a little bit of everything. Great surface action for peacocks and excellent opportunities for big red-tail catfish.  High daily catch averages (10 - 30 fish per day) and a great proportion of trophy peacocks up to 24 pounds.

Unini River - One of the most consistently productive rivers in Amazonia.  Dark water favors surface action and results in violent, explosive topwater strikes.  Excellent daily catch averages (15 - 25 fish per day) and a very high proportion of trophy peacocks up to 25 pounds.

Urubaxi River - Home of some of the largest peacock bass in Amazonia.  If a 20 pounder is your goal, this river is one of the most likely ways to achieve it.  Lower daily catch averages (5 - 15 fish per day) but an outlandish proportion of huge peacocks - up to world record size.

If conditions warrant, we may also fish the Rio Cuini, Araca, Paduari, Preto, Uneuixi, Tea and others.

Fall 2009 - Winter 2010  -  Rio Negro Basin Sample Itinerary

Day 1 Depart US via International flight.
Day 2 Depart Manaus, Brazil.  Transfer to  domestic airport for chartered flight to airstrip or water landing nearest the fishery.  Arrive on the yacht and enjoy lunch.  Relax in the afternoon or tell your guide you want to rush right out for an extra half day of fishing.
Day 3
through
Day 8
Six full days of fishing.  A normal angling day begins with a 5:30 AM wake up call followed by breakfast at 6:00 AM.  Your guide will be ready to depart as early as 6:30 AM, although you can remain on board at your leisure.  Pack a boxed lunch and relax or take a midday snooze in a hammock on the riverbank.  Return to camp by dusk for appetizers, cocktails and bragging, followed by a delicious dinner.  Depending on our location, anglers may also enjoy village visits, jungle walks, spotlighting excursions or catfishing.
Day 9 Transfer back to Manaus via charter flight.  Relax at the Tropical Hotel or book a city tour, shop or enjoy great Brazilian restaurants.   Catch your flight back to the US or overnight in Manaus, depending on carrier selected.
These are sample arrangements for these trips - Due to carriers and conditions, variations can occur.
The beautiful Blackwater Explorer
Built to fish - The new "Blackwater Explorer" is one of the most attractive yachts sailing the Amazon basin.  Her classic and graceful "Amazonian Regional" design blends perfectly with the pristine blackwater habitat she calls home.  But more importantly, she's been built to fish.  Her broad beam maximizes her functional interior space while keeping her length manageably short.  This gives her great maneuverability, letting her safely and easily penetrate into inaccessible, meandering headwaters streams.  The yacht's impressively low draft (she displaces only 1.2 meters) allows her to readily pass shallow sandbars and obstructions that would keep less efficiently designed boats back in port.
peacock bass trip - meals     Designed for fishermen - The Blackwater Explorer was designed for fishermen.  Her well-organized debarkation deck lets a full group of anglers get started on their fishing day quickly, without crowding, fuss or confusion.  The debarkation deck's waterline exit lets you walk right onto your fishing boat, with no ladders to climb. All of your fishing gear and take-along items can remain right at hand and be ready to go when you are.  We've done our homework and we've designed the best purpose-built sportfishing vessel in the Amazon.

Luxurious and Comfortable  - The Explorer is a fishing mothership of the highest caliber.  The list of her luxurious features is long.  Here are just a few.

1. Private bathrooms w/sink, toilet and shower in each cabin.
2. Roomy cabins with plenty of storage space.
3. Two meter high ceilings.  Gone are the days when six-footers have to duck.
4. Huge (6 and 1/2 x 7 meter) common area.  Spacious dining room and lots of walk-around space.
5. Big, wide, non-slip stairwells.
6. Cabin doors open directly to outside spaces.
7. Shallow draft for improved access - almost 1/2 meter less than typical Amazon yachts.  The Explorer can fish areas we've never accessed before.
8. Wider beam - Perfect stability.
9.  Smoke-free cabins and indoor areas.
10. Open-air bar and lounge area on upper deck.
The best Value in the Amazon.   Come and enjoy it with us.
