Floating Bungalow Safari Camps - For
all of our standard fall and winter fly-in camping packages, we use mobile
safari-style bungalows built individually on small barges. They are
the perfect compromise between mobility, comfort and luxury. With
a total weight of only 820 pounds each and drawing only several inches
of water, they are a breakthrough for navigating over shallow water barriers
away from all fishing pressure.

floating bungalow camp set up on a beautiful white sand beach.

Each 10'x15' barge accommodates two anglers.
They are fully floored, with a 4-ply insulated roof, fully-screened walls
and an aluminum entry door. They have individual bathroom facilities
complete with showers. Each unit has two comfortable single beds
with fresh linens and comfortable mattresses. Each barge has its own air-conditioning,
lighting and plumbing system. |
CAMP ACCOMMODATION SPECIFICS
Sand -- Our bungalow camps are usually situated directly on a
beautiful sandy beach. Think of it as a carribbean vacation with
big aggressive fish. Many guests find it most comfortable to simply
remain barefoot in camp.
Water -- All of the camp's drinking, cooking and food
preparation water is commercial bottled water. Shower and sink water,
although not potable, is pumped directly from some of the most pristine
rivers in the world. Each unit has its own drinking glasses and water
bottles are replaced daily.
Power Source/Batteries -- The camp has a generator supplying
11O-volt electricity. Camcorder batteries (etcetera) can be charged
from the generator. All bungalow units have their own outlets and
power source. Make sure to fully close your unit when you leave.
This ensures that no unwelcome insect visitors enter and end up as surprise
bed partners in the middle of the night.
If you smoke,-- Smoking is permitted only
in the open-air areas.
BATHROOMS -- All units have their own separate bathroom facilities
which consist of an enclosed shower, sink and toilet. A
Towels -- Each bungalow unit will have two fresh sets of bath,
and face towels supplied daily.
Soap -- Fresh bars of soap are provided.
Showers -- and sink are filled by a pump directly from the river.
Many of our guests also enjoy bathing in the river. This may be the
purest and cleanest water you will ever encounter. It is not, however,
suitable for drinking-use the provided bottled water. Do not drink
the water from any other source in the unit. In addition, the dining
area always contains fresh bottled water, lemonade, sodas and beer.

Camps routinely move during the day while anglers
are out fishing for peacock bass.
|
Camps consist of a group of barges docked against a beach or shoreline,
including 'bedroom' barges for each pair of anglers, an 18'x12' dining/sitting
lounge, host quarters, a kitchen and a staff bedroom. The camp will
be moved as needed, but will usually remain closest to the river's most
productive lagoons. We also try to find scenic locations with nice
beaches for swimming, whenever possible. Each camp has approximately
10 to 12 staff members, including the bilingual host, camp owner/manager,
two cooks, waiter, laundry personnel, maids, boat technician and guides.
The camp includes a generator, which supplies electricity to the bungalows,
battery chargers, camp shortwave radio, electric washing machine and various
freezers and refrigerators, etcetera. All camps have a fairly extensive
medical kit for emergency first aid. These camps, while clearly not
5-star hotel accommodations, are very comfortable and a far cry from tent
camping.
Laundry -- The camp has a daily laundry service. All dirty
clothes should be left in the tent's laundry bag or on the floor before
you go fishing. The camp's laundry personnel will pick up your clothes
and wash them while you're out on the river. Clean clothes will be
returned to your unit each day. If the day is excessively rainy,
laundry may not come back until the following day, as all clothing is air
dried.
